Effect of Silicon Nanoparticles on Tomato Plants Exposed to Two Forms of Inorganic Arsenic

In the environment arsenic (As) can be found mainly as arsenite (AsIII) and arsenate (AsV), which are highly toxic threaten food security. Currently, there is great attention on effects of silicon dioxide nanoparticles (SiO2 NPs) plant development, their ability to restrict As uptake. The results show that two forms negatively impacted aerial dry biomass fruit yield. Silicon content lower in roots than leaves. It observed AsIII form accumulates most root; addition, SiO2 NPs reduce translocation AsV. data induced a negative effect uptake Ca, P, Mg, Cu, while enhances accumulation Fe Zn when exposed AsIII. do not impact chlorophyll but increases interacting with NPs. Antioxidant enzymes APX, CAT, SOD higher Phenols, flavonoids, glutathione increased interacted roots. H2O2 leaves by exposure AsV AsIII, its interactions NPs, fruit, production decreases. for total antioxidant capacity ABTS increase + only bioactive compounds tomato fruits modified treatments addition alone lycopene content. Therefore, our reveal impacts at least partially mitigate toxicity tomatoes.
